Real Madrid have been home to some of the biggest legends in the history of football over the years. The Spanish giants have enjoyed undeniable success consistently through their history. And the team over the past decade-and-a-half has been amongst its most successful. One player who was a key part of that is Marcelo.

Marcelo arrived at Real Madrid from Fluminense in January of 2007. And he would stay on at the Santiago Bernabeu till the summer of 2022.

During that period of time, he would become one of the most decorated players in Real Madrid history. The Brazilian left-back even climbed through the ranks to become captain of the club, as they lifted a Champions League and La Liga double in his last season with Los Blancos.

He would end up joining Olympiacos in the summer but that move did not turn out as he would have hoped. Marcelo struggled with injury problems and ultimately, his time at the Greek club was cut short recently. It remains to be seen what he decides to do next.

Marcelo has teased the idea of returning to Real Madrid in some capacity in the future, although his playing days in the Royal White jersey seem pretty much over.

As reported by SPORT, Marcelo said in an interview with ESPN:

"“Real Madrid is my home. I arrived at the age of 18 and I have learned all the values of the club with players like Raúl, Iker Casillas, Sergio Ramos. If I tell the truth, I feel like I’ve not left Real Madrid. One is where he was born from. I didn’t leave Rio de Janeiro, it’s impossible for you to leave. A part of me is inside with my son, who is growing. I’m not now, but I don’t think I’m gone. I see myself coming back, I would very much like to try to help children who need it just like when I arrived with 18 years.”"

Over the years, several Real Madrid legends have returned to the club in a coaching capacity. Does Marcelo see a future for himself in management? Only time shall tell.

His son plays for Real Madrid at the youth level. For the time being, Marcelo is expected to continue playing though. It remains to be seen where he heads next, and what kind of offers he gets, after his stint at Olympiacos came to an end much sooner than was expected.
