Real Madrid said goodbye to a number of club legends last summer. Amongst them was Marcelo. The Brazilian left-back arrived at Santiago Bernabeu in January of 2007 from Fluminense, as a teenager. He spent more than a decade-and-a-half at the club after that, becoming one of the most decorated players in Los Blancos’ history.

It is worth pointing out though that Marcelo’s importance to the team had decreased in his last few years at Real Madrid. And things have not turned out as he would have hoped after his departure.

Marcelo would go on to join Olympiacos after leaving Real Madrid. But the Brazilian legend struggled to remain fit during his time with the Greek club and ultimately, his contract was terminated.

Now, as tweeted out by Fabrizio Romano, Real Madrid legend Marcelo has signed as a new Fluminense player. He was never close to Al Nassr.

Marcelo had come through the ranks at Fluminense before making a move to Real Madrid back in 2007. And now, it feels like he is looking to close out his career in style, where it all started for him.

It is believed that Marcelo has signed a deal with Fluminense that runs till the end of 2024. And he could bring a lot to the table for the Brazilian team, than just his abilities on the pitch, which are expected to be limited at this stage of his career.

Marcelo is 34 years of age and has had his struggles with fitness issues in recent seasons. He has a bucket full of experience at the top level though and has won consistently throughout the course of his playing career. And he can take that winning mentality to Fluminense and hopefully, that will take them up a level this season.
