Real Madrid have been linked with a long list of players in recent times, which makes sense because there are a number of positions in their squad which could do with strengthening. Defence is certainly amongst them. It has looked like one of their weak points throughout the course of this season and things could have been worse if not for the heroics of Thibaut Courtois in goal on numerous occasions.
That was not expected to be the case when Antonio Rudiger was brought in as a free agent in the summer. Over his last 18 months at Chelsea, the German international had been one of the best centre-backs on the planet. But he has failed to reproduce those performances in a Royal White jersey.
On the other hand, David Alaba’s recent form has been questionable as well, while he has struggled with injuries as well. The only centre-back who has looked on form is Eder Militao.
As a result, it is quite possible that Real Madrid might look to add to their centre-back options in the summer. They have already been heavily linked with Josko Gvardiol. But at the same time, it looks like they have their eyes on a Spanish defender as well.
Real Madrid, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal interested in €50 million defender
Rumours coming out of Spain have suggested that Real Madrid hold an interest in Pau Torres. At the same time, the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are believed to be keeping an eye on the Spaniard as well.
Torres currently plays for Villarreal and is a regular starter for the Yellow Submarine. He has been linked with a move away for years but it just has not worked out.
This summer, he will only have a year left on his contract though. Torres is believed to be rated at around €50 million but it is hard to see clubs shelling that out for someone who would have only 12 months left on his deal at that point.
