Real Madrid are going through a stop-start season and have failed to find any sort of rhythm in recent times. Their 5-2 win away at Anfield against Liverpool had raised hopes that it would act as the launching pad for a strong end to the campaign. But that result has been followed by a 1-1 draw against 10-man Atletico Madrid and a 1-0 defeat to a Barcelona side struggling with a lack of form and injuries. On top of that, both games were played at Santiago Bernabeu.
That is cause for worry for sure. Real Madrid are still competing in all three major competitions this season. But they are not the favourites in any of them.
One player whose form is a reflection of the club’s as well is Benzema. The Frenchman put in a superb performance at Anfield but then disappointed massively against both Atletico Madrid and Barcelona. He has been struggling with fitness issues throughout the season, which has prevented him from building up any kind of momentum.
And as reported by Relevo, Benzema’s apathy baffles the club and the coach, because the feeling grows that he has his head elsewhere. His record reflects this, as does the other data handled by the coaching staff and the sensations he gives off in each game and training.
Real Madrid and Ancelotti baffled by superstar’s attitude
Benzema is the current Ballon d’Or holder. But till now, his 2022/23 campaign has been a bit of a disappointment to say the very least.
According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 18 goals and provided 5 assists in 26 appearances. Quite a few of them have come from the penalty spot.
It is also worth pointing out that Benzema is 35 years of age and has struggled with a number of injury problems this season. As a result, Real Madrid cannot continue to rely on him to be the main man for many more years.
