Real Madrid need to strengthen their squad in multiple areas moving forward. One of them could very well be centre-back. When the club signed Antonio Rudiger as a free agent last summer, the expectation was that the position would be sorted for the next few years at least. That unfortunately has not turned out to be the case till now.

Rudiger has struggled to reproduce the performances that saw him being hailed as one of the best defenders in the world during his time at Chelsea. On the other hand, David Alaba’s form has been on a bit of a downturn recently as well. Only Eder Militao has performed at a high level lately, when it comes to centre-backs.

As a result, it would not be a surprise if Real Madrid try to sign another centre-back in the future. And they are being linked with one from Manchester City, Aymeric Laporte.

As reported by Foot Mercato (via SPORT), Manchester City would be negotiating the signing of Josko Gvardiol from RB Leipzig, so it would give way to the Spanish international. Barcelona and Real Madrid are attentive in case there is an opportunity to sign Laporte.

Laporte joined Manchester City in 2018. He was a major hit during his first season in Pep Guardiola’s side as well.

Since then, he has had an up and down time at the club though, with a long list of injuries playing a part in that. As a result, it looks like he could be on his way out in the future, especially if Manchester City end up making a move for Gvardiol.

At the same time, if Real Madrid are eyeing Laporte, they must be wary of his injury history. The Spanish international is 28 years of age and has already gone through several long-term injuries. The last thing Los Blancos need at the moment is a player struggling to remain fit.
