The positivity around Real Madrid after the 5-2 win over Liverpool at Anfield seem like a distant memory now. It is funny how quickly things can change in football. On the day Jurgen Klopp’s side registered a 7-0 victory over Manchester United, Carlo Ancelotti’s team could only manage a goalless draw against Real Betis, to leave their La Liga title hopes hanging by a thread.

Real Madrid have not won a single game since that historic night at Anfield. They drew 1-1 against a 10-man Atletico Madrid, lost 1-0 to a Barcelona team who had several of their key players missing in the first leg of their Copa del Rey semis and now, were held to a 0-0 draw by Real Betis.

That is a bad run of results to say the least. And one man who underperformed in all three games is Karim Benzema.

Now to be fair, the Frenchman was unlucky to have a goal chalked off against Real Betis. But other than that, there was not much to write home about his performance. Fans on social media did not seem to be pleased with him either.

The fact of the matter is that Benzema has not looked at his best throughout this season. Yes, he has scored goals from time-to-time, and had some big performances, like the one against Liverpool. But overall, this campaign has not been nearly as good as the one before, which earned him the Ballon d’Or.

Real Madrid do not have any real back up to Benzema up front though. Alvaro has excited with his performances off the bench but at the end of the day, he is just 18 and nowhere near ready to lead the line for Los Blancos.

Thus, if Real Madrid are to win silverware this season, they will need Benzema to start delivering again as soon as possible.
