The managerial situation at Real Madrid is very interesting right now. Carlo Ancelotti overdelivered on all expectations last season and guided them to a Champions League and La Liga double. This time around, the club had made a superb start as well, but as the campaign has progressed, injuries and fatigue seem to have taken their toll on a squad that has lacked depth from the very beginning.

At the moment, Real Madrid are struggling. They have not won any of their last three games. Ancelotti’s team are nine points behind Barcelona in the La Liga title race, lost the first leg of the Copa del Rey semis against Xavi’s side at Santiago Bernabeu and the Champions League might very well be their best hope of winning silverware this season.

If they end up going trophyless, it is very possible that Ancelotti would be shown the exit door. And it looks like the club are eyeing a former Premier League manager as a potential replacement.

As reported by Defensa Central (via The Hard Tackle), Mauricio Pochettino has emerged on Real Madrid’s radar. They are mulling over replacing Ancelotti with the Argentine manager.

Real Madrid are eyeing former Premier League manager

Real Madrid have been linked with Pochettino several times in the past. But a move has just never materialised.

Pochettino finds himself without a club right now though. His last spell came at PSG, which was pretty underwhelming as he struggled to get the best out of the Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar trio. The French giants won silverware during the Argentine’s time in Paris, but ultimately, failed to reach their big goal, which is winning the Champions League.

That does not change the fact that Pochettino is one of the best managers in the game right now. He showed that during his time at Tottenham Hotspur, who he guided to the Champions League final and had them in a couple of Premier League title races as well. And it would be wrong to adjudge his time at PSG as a failure.
