Real Madrid need to strengthen in several positions across the pitch. Left-back is amongst them. Ferland Mendy is out injured right now and there have been questions about his form for a while as well. David Alaba has acted as his cover there but he himself has not been on good form after the World Cup break and is out with an injury currently. Eduardo Camavinga looks like their best option there at this point of time.

The good news is that Real Madrid already have a deal in place to bring back Fran Garcia in the summer, from Rayo Vallecano. And it looks like they have another left-back in their sights as well, who came through the ranks at Barcelona.

Alejandro Grimaldo was very highly rated at Barcelona while coming through the youth ranks but surprisingly he never made a senior appearance for the Catalan giants. He would ultimately move to Benfica in 2016 and has established himself there.

Grimaldo is having a standout campaign at Benfica this time around. And that seems to have caught the eye of several clubs around Europe.

As reported by Mundo Deportivo, Benfica’s intention is to renew the deal of Grimaldo although the player would be open to a new project. Some information even puts him in the orbit of Real Madrid.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, Grimaldo has scored 5 goals and provided 11 assists in 41 appearances this season across all competitions for Benfica. Those are impressive numbers for a left-back.

On top of everything else, his current deal runs out in the summer. Signing a player in that kind of form, at 27 years of age, and as a free agent, would be a smart move for many clubs across Europe.

Of course, it is possible that Grimaldo could decide to remain at Benfica and extend his deal. Let’s see what the future holds for him and whether Real Madrid end up making a move or not.
