Real Madrid have a number of contract decisions to make over the course of the next few weeks and months. There are a number of players whose current deals with the club are running out in the summer, who still have a role in the squad. One player who falls under that category is Marco Asensio.
The Spaniard has played his way into the team this season, after it had initially looked like he was out of Carlo Ancelotti’s plans. And to be honest, he has an important role in the team.
Asensio is proven in La Liga and has shown time after time that he can make an impact off the bench. Real Madrid might find it difficult to bring in a player with a similar profile, if the Spanish international was to leave.
Thus, the best case scenario for Los Blancos might very well be him staying put at Santiago Bernabeu. And it looks like Asensio has a desire to remain with the European champions as well, but the situation is not as straightforward.
Real Madrid player does not like new contract offer
As reported by MARCA, Asensio received a renewal offer a few months ago but that he has not yet accepted because he doesn’t like it. The proposal is slightly down, while the player sought a salary increase.
Thus, it remains to be seen what the future holds for Asensio at Santiago Bernabeu, and whether the club and the player are able to reach an agreement over the coming months. Him staying would be best for Real Madrid, but only if the conditions are satisfactory.
On the other hand, Asensio has been linked with an unexpected move to Barcelona recently. And the longer the contract extension saga drags on, the more likely that could get to becoming a reality.
