Real Madrid have a number of players in their squad whose long-term futures are not sorted. Some could end up agreeing new deals and staying on at Santiago Bernabeu, while others might head for the exit door. But despite all the uncertainty, fans don’t expect stars to make a switch to Barcelona.
Yet, that is exactly what might happen when it comes to Marco Asensio. The Spaniard has continued to play his part at the club, even though his current deal runs out in the summer.
It had looked like Asensio had played his way back into Carlo Ancelotti’s plans. But he has barely feature in some of the club’s most important matches recently. He only played a few minutes against Liverpool at Anfield and was left on the bench completely against Barcelona and Real Betis.
That has led to speculation that he is considering his future. And as reported by Gerard Romero (via Tribuna), Jorge Mendes has offered Asensio to Barcelona.
Real Madrid player offered to Barcelona by Mendes
Asensio has been linked with Barcelona for a while and it is not hard to see why the Catalan giants might be interested. The Spaniard has proven himself in La Liga for years and is an impact substitute.
At the same time, one has to wonder how much football he would get to play in a very strong Barcelona team, who have the likes of Ousmane Dembele and Raphinha capable of playing on the right wing already. Thus, it makes little sense to move to Camp Nou in search of more playing time.
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Asensio. But with his contract yet to be extended, it looks like a move to Barcelona might be a very real possibility for the Spaniard, as things stand.
