When Real Madrid signed Eden Hazard from Chelsea in the summer of 2019, there were high expectations surrounding him. He was one of the best players in the world and a bona fide Premier League legend. Thus, it looked like Los Blancos had found the next face of the club. Almost four years on, it is clear that that could not have been more wrong.

Since signing for Real Madrid for a club record transfer fee, his time at Santiago Bernabeu has been far from smooth sailing. His spell has been littered with injuries and he has lost his place in the team over the years.

Hazard’s last appearance for Real Madrid came against fourth-tier side Cacereno in the Copa del Rey back in January. Naturally, he has been linked with a move away from the club.

However, as reported by The Athletic, Hazard intends to stay at Real Madrid until the end of his contract in the summer of 2024. The Belgian and his entourage came to a general agreement that he wants to remain in the Spanish capital for reasons both professional as well as personal.

Hazard has suffered a long list of injuries, and undergone two operations, during his time at Real Madrid. Injuries however aren’t the only thing that have stopped the Belgian from succeeding at the club.

Hazard no longer seems to be relied on by the manager. That has seen him dropping to the bottom of the pecking order for game time. The expectation was that he would be given more game time this season by Carlo Ancelotti, but that has not happened.

It looks like Hazard is now determined to tough out the rest of his contract at Real Madrid, like past players have done before. Los Blancos should try to find the Belgian a new club though, as they are paying him a hefty figure to just sit on the bench week in and week out.
