Real Madrid could do with more options all across the pitch. Their lack of depth was always expected to be an issue for the club and it has proven to be just that. Fatigue, injuries and a general lack of form have taken the wind out of the sails of their campaign. One can only hope that Los Blancos end up strengthening in the summer and could a Manchester City player be the solution to a number of their problems.

Real Madrid do not have a ton of depth at right-back. Dani Carvajal is no longer the player that he was in his prime, struggling with both form and fitness. Nacho Fernandez, Lucas Vazquez and Alvaro Odriozola are the other players capable of filling in. But there is not one standout candidate for the role right now.

The club were heavily linked with Manchester City’s Joao Cancelo for a while, which is why it came as a surprise when he went to Bayern Munich on loan in January. Real Madrid could soon have another chance to sign him though.

As reported by Calciomercato, Bayern Munich are not expected to exercise the €70 million option to buy of Cancelo. Thus, it is likely that he will return to Manchester City.

Even if Cancelo returns to Manchester City, he is not expected to stay there. Thus, it looks like Real Madrid might be handed the perfect opportunity to not only sign Cancelo, but for a bargain transfer fee as well.

It was not too long ago that he was considered the best full-back on the planet. And he did make a bright start at Bayern Munich as well, before losing his spot in the team.

In fact, his numbers at Bayern Munich are still solid. According to stat from Transfermarkt, Cancelo has provided 3 assists in 7 appearances and 344 minutes of football for the Bundesliga giants.
