Real Madrid find themselves in an interesting position right now. They have been extremely successful in recent years, as proven by their Champions League and La Liga double last season. At the same time though, it has been quite clear for a while that this squad needs a revamp sooner or later, with a number of key players in the twilight of their respective careers.
The likes of Karim Benzema, Luka Modric and Toni Kroos have been the backbone of the club for a long time. But it might be time to say goodbye to them soon and for a new generation of stars to take their place.
In the case of Benzema, he is 35 years of age and has been struggling with fitness issues frequently this season. Real Madrid cannot continue to rely on him to deliver the goods for too much longer. And it looks like they might have a long-term replacement for the Frenchman in sight.
As reported by Independent, Real Madrid are considering a move for Manchester City striker Erling Haaland this summer. Florentino Perez was expected to delay any such move until 2024, but Los Blancos are at least willing to test the situation.
Real Madrid plot blockbuster move for Manchester City superstar
It was just last summer that Manchester City signed Haaland from Borussia Dortmund. And he has certainly brought the goals with him.
According to stats from Transfermarkt, Haaland has scored 33 goals and provided 5 assists in 34 appearances for Manchester City. Those are mind boggling numbers, especially for a player who is still just 22 years of age.
At the same time though, there has been a debate about whether Haaland’s introduction has seen Manchester City take a step back as a team. They are certainly in a worse position than they were last season and are struggling to build up any sustainable momentum. The Norwegian might be a much better fit at Real Madrid though, who have been in search of a Galactico who can be the face of the club ever since Cristiano Ronaldo left.
