Real Madrid have concentrated on building their squad around top young talents in recent years. Their transfer activity has been focused in that direction as well. The club have brought in experienced players like David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger, but as free agents. The bigger investment has been made in bringing in players like Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga, who could be key parts of the team for the next decade to come.

Despite the addition of Rudiger and Alaba, defence has remained an issue for Real Madrid. The experienced duo have struggled to showcase their best form in recent times. The only centre-back who has looked good lately is Eder Militao.

Thus, it should come as no surprise that Real Madrid continue to be linked with centre-backs. And a rising star at AC Milan seems to have caught their attention.

As reported by Defensa Central (via The Hard Tackle), Malick Thiaw is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. They have monitored his performances for AC Milan this season and the centre-back’s performance against Tottenham Hotspur has alerted them.

Considering the big names that Real Madrid have at the back, one would expect them to have one of the best defences in Europe. Reality has been different though.

They have conceded 19 goals in La Liga this season already. Just for comparison, Barcelona have seen the ball hit the back of their net just 8 times. Thus, it is not hard to see where the difference between the two teams lies.

Someone like Thiaw would be an interesting signing to say the least. It was just last summer that he joined AC Milan and made a slow start to life at San Siro.

Early on in the season, he was mostly being left on the bench or out of the squad altogether. But he grown in importance over time and is now pretty much a starter for AC Milan.
