Real Madrid are in need of reinforcements. The players deserve credit for winning the Champions League and La Liga double last season, and competing for all three major trophies this time around. But the fact of the matter is that they simply do not have the squad depth to consistently perform throughout the course of a campaign.

Last season, they were immense at pulling out victories from the jaws of defeat in the Champions League, time after time. On the other hand, in domestic competition, they were helped by the fact that Barcelona did not put up any sort of challenge.

This season, Barcelona are performing at a high level once again, at least domestically. They are leading the La Liga race by nine points and have won the first leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final tie against Real Madrid.

Thus, it is clear that Real Madrid need to improve in several positions across the pitch. Full-back is one of them. And it looks like they have their eyes on a Manchester City player.

As reported by Fichajes (via The Hard Tackle), Joao Cancelo is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. Los Blancos want to strengthen their right-back options in the summer.

Not too long ago, Cancelo was considered amongst the best full-backs in the world. But now, he finds himself away on loan at Bayern Munich.

The Bundesliga giants are not expected to take up the €70 million option to buy that is believed to be included in his loan deal though, meaning he is likely to return to Manchester City in the summer. But it does not look like he has a future there.

So, not only could Cancelo be available in the summer. But he could be available for a bargain fee. And if that is the case, Real Madrid should consider a move.
