Real Madrid have some big decisions to make over the coming weeks and months regarding the contract situation of a number of their current stars. Several deals are set to run out in the summer, and with the squad depth already pretty thin, Los Blancos need to make sure that they hold onto their most important players.
One player whose current deal is set to expire in the summer is Karim Benzema. The current Ballon d’Or holder has been the face of the team ever since Cristiano Ronaldo left in 2018 in order to join Juventus.
He has played his role perfectly as well. Benzema had his career best season last time around, guiding Real Madrid to a Champions League and La Liga double.
And despite being 35 years of age, it looks like he is set to extend his stay with the club. As reported by L’Equipe and as tweeted by Transfer News Live, Benzema and Real Madrid have reached a verbal agreement over a contract extension until June 2024.

Benzema has faced his fair share of problems this season as well, when it comes to his fitness. The Frenchman has had to deal with a number of injury worries, and has had to spend several spells out on the sidelines.
As a result, Real Madrid cannot continue to rely on Benzema to be the main man up top for many more years. But for the time being, it looks like they will be sticking with the Frenchman.
When Benzema has been on the pitch, he has still delivered the goods more often than not. At the same time though, Real Madrid need to start thinking about the long-term future as well. They have been linked with the likes of Dusan Vlahovic, Erling Haaland and several more strikers recently.
