Real Madrid do not have the greatest squad depth. On top of that, several key players have been struggling for fitness as well as form. Despite that, the club find themselves in the last 8 of the UEFA Champions League, having defeated Liverpool 1-0 at Santiago Bernabeu and 6-2 on aggregate.

Many Real Madrid fans would have been a bit nervous coming into the second leg against Liverpool, taking into account what happened last season against Chelsea in a similar situation and also the Reds’ recent 7-0 win over Manchester United. There was not much to be worried about though, as Los Blancos booked their place in the quarter-finals of Europe’s elite competition once again, as they look to defend their crown.

One of the players who stepped up immensely on the night is Eduardo Camavinga. He put in a brilliant performance against Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Whether it be his work with the ball at his feet or winning it back from the opposition, it was a commanding display from Camavinga in the middle of the park. And at this point, it is time to start considering him as a starter. He has been that good.

It is incredible how quickly things have turned around for Camavinga at Real Madrid. In the first half of the season, he was struggling for playing time. In fact, there were even some suggestions that he could be sent out on loan or included as part of a deal for Jude Bellingham.

Camavinga has looked like a player transformed after the World Cup though. And he has managed to establish himself as a regular starter in Carlo Ancelotti’s team in recent months, with his performances all over the pitch.

The youngster deserves immense credit for stepping up when his team needed him the most. Hopefully he will continue to perform at this level moving forward as well.
