Real Madrid will need to revamp their squad moving forward. The club might have made the last 8 of the Champions League once again by defeating Liverpool convincingly over two legs. But at the moment, they simply do not have enough depth to compete in all three competitions or perform at their best throughout the course of the season.
One area where they might be in need of reinforcements is their central defence. When Antonio Rudiger was signed as a free agent in the summer, the expectation was that the club were getting one of the best defenders on the planet. He has failed to replicate the form that he showed under the management of Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea though.
On the other hand, David Alaba has not been at his best either after the World Cup break. Nacho Fernandez is 33 years of age and his long-term future is uncertain. And Jesus Vallejo does not seem to be a big part of Carlo Ancelotti’s plans. Eder Militao looks like the only centre-back with a long-term future at Santiago Bernabeu.
Thus, the club could do with another centre-back. Could Josko Gvardiol of RB Leipzig be the perfect man for the job? There is some good news for Real Madrid in the chase for the Croatian’s signature.
€100 million player interested in joining Real Madrid
As reported by BILD, Manchester City’s request seems a little less attractive to Gvardiol than that of Real Madrid. Los Blancos have also informed his advisors about their intention but must first sort out their transfer budget.
Gvardiol is considered by many as the best young defender on the planet right now. And he arguably was the best centre-back at the recent World Cup.
It is believed that RB Leipzig could look for a transfer fee around €100 million to let him leave. It remains to be seen if Real Madrid make a move or not.
