Real Madrid star will not play vs Barcelona at Camp Nou

Real Madrid got themselves a huge result in midweek, winning the second leg against Liverpool 1-0 and 6-2 on aggregate. Thus, despite there being so many question marks over their form and squad depth, Carlo Ancelotti’s side once again find themselves in the last 8 of the Champions League. And they have to be considered as one of the top favourites to go on and win it all.

The important games do not stop coming for Real Madrid though. This weekend, they will be taking on Barcelona at Camp Nou.

This is an extremely important match for Real Madrid in the La Liga title race. This is what they call a ‘six-pointer’ of a game. If Los Blancos win, Barcelona’s lead will be cut to six points. On the other hand, if Ancelotti’s side lose, they will fall twelve points behind the Catalan giants with twelve games to go.

If that was to happen, the title race would be as good as over. Thus, Real Madrid will have to go to Camp Nou looking for a win. That will make for an interesting contest for sure. They have lost back-to-back games to Barcelona going into this match. And they have been handed an injury blow as well.

As reported by The Athletic, after assessments on Thursday, David Alaba is set to miss the game against Barcelona. The Austrian defender remains sidelined.

Alaba picked up an injury in the first leg of the tie against Liverpool at Anfield. And he has not returned to action since.

There have been some question marks over the Austrian international’s performances after the World Cup break as well. And he certainly has not been helped by injuries.

The good thing is that Antonio Rudiger seems to have improved lately. Eder Militao has been very good. And Nacho Fernandez is filling in at left-back.
