The future of Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid is up in the air and is an interesting one to say the least. He defied all odds to deliver a Champions League and La Liga double last season, when most people had viewed it as a transitional appointment on the part of the club following the exit of Zinedine Zidane. But then, last season’s success raised expectations.

The team have struggled to meet them this time around. They are nine points behind Barcelona in the La Liga title race and have also lost the first leg of the Copa del Rey semis against Xavi’s side, that too at Santiago Bernabeu.

As a result, the situation is far from ideal. They are still in the Champions League, having made the last 8. But if they end up finishing trophyless this season, there is a good possibility that Ancelotti would be shown the exit door in the summer.

On the other hand, Ancelotti has been heavily linked with the Brazil national team job as well. Thus, considering everything, Real Madrid could be in search of a new manager soon. And a Champions League winner is in their sights.

Real Madrid eye Champions League winner as Ancelotti’s replacement

As reported by BILD, Real Madrid have Thomas Tuchel on their list, if Ancelotti leaves at the end of the season. The German has used his job break to learn Spanish.

Tuchel’s last spell came at Chelsea, who he guided to a Champions League, a UEFA Super Cup and a Club World Cup. And considering how things have turned out for the Blues since they replaced him with Graham Potter, it feels like the German tactician massively overachieved.

Someone like Tuchel could be a great manager for Real Madrid. But at the same time, it is very possible that Ancelotti could remain at the club beyond this season. They have a decent chance at winning the Champions League. And if that happens, it is almost certain that the Italian would find himself in the Santiago Bernabeu hot seat next season as well.
