Real Madrid are set to face Chelsea for the third straight season in the Champions League, as the two teams have been drawn together in the quarter-finals of the competition. The Blues came out on top in the 2020/21 campaign, while Los Blancos were the victors last time around in a thrilling tie. This is the rubber match between the two European giants.

Real Madrid should be quite happy to have drawn Chelsea this time around. They have been pretty bad this season to be very honest, having made the brave decision to replace Champions League-winning manager, Thomas Tuchel, with Graham Potter. As things stand, they are 10th in the Premier League table and out of both domestic competitions.

It came as a surprise when they were able to turn the tie around against Borussia Dortmund in the last 16, by winning 2-0 in the second leg. They will face a much tougher task against Real Madrid though.

Jose Mourinho is someone who has managed both Chelsea and Real Madrid during the course of his storied career. And it looks like he is backing Los Blancos to win the competition this season. As reported by the Mirror, the Portuguese manager said on Thursday night:

"“There is a club that is close to my heart and there is a manager who is my friend.“Real Madrid are great and Carlo Ancelotti is great! Hopefully they will go on in this way to win the final.”"

Of course, Mourinho was the manager of Real Madrid from 2010 to 2013. During that time, he enjoyed quite a bit of success and was instrumental in ending the dominance of Barcelona, who were managed by Pep Guardiola at that time and were considered by many as the best team ever.

On the other hand, Mourinho had two separate stints at Chelsea and won a lot of silverware at Stamford Bridge. He is the most successful manager in the history of the club.

Of course, there is another manager who has managed both Chelsea and Real Madrid, and it is none other than Carlo Ancelotti. And the Italian will be hoping to get the better of his former club once again.
