Real Madrid have a number of big contract decisions to make over the coming months. There is a long list of players, whose current deals will run out at the end of the campaign. Several of them still have key roles in Carlo Ancelotti’s team though and the best case scenario for them would be staying on at Santiago Bernabeu.

One player who falls under that category is none other than Karim Benzema. The current Ballon d’Or holder is having an up and down campaign this time around.

When he is on the pitch, he is still a difference maker. But he has had to deal with a lot of injuries throughout the course of the campaign, meaning he has had to spend several spells out on the sidelines as well.

As reported by 90min, Real Madrid have reached an agreement with Benzema over a contract extension. The Frenchman has agreed to a 12-month deal.

Benzema had been linked with a potential move to the Saudi Pro League or a return to Lyon. But it looks like he is set to remain at Real Madrid, the club where he has established himself as a legend.

At 35, it is clear that the club cannot continue to rely on him to be the main man up top for many more years. But at the same time, Benzema can still deliver the goods on the big moments. The three goals over the two legs against Liverpool is proof of that.

Real Madrid have a clear lack of depth at striker. So, while Benzema might be set to stay on, the club still need to bring in another forward in the summer. It remains to be seen what they decide to do. They have been linked with several big names in recent weeks.
