Real Madrid superstar slammed for performance vs Barcelona

Real Madrid have now lost three straight games against Barcelona, and in three different competitions at that. An early goal for Carlo Ancelotti’s side away at the Camp Nou had raised hopes that they could bring their season back on track with a win. But Xavi’s team mounted a comeback, with a 92nd minute goal from Franck Kessie sealing a 2-1 win for the Catalan giants.

The result also most probably put the La Liga title beyond Real Madrid’s grasp. With twelve games left to be played in the league, they trail by twelve points. And Barcelona will get the chance to knock their eternal rivals out of the Copa del Rey as well, when the two teams meet next. Xavi’s side have a 1-0 aggregate lead from the first leg of the semi finals.

It would be safe to say that Real Madrid did not put in a great performance at the Camp Nou by any stretch of the imagination. Los Blancos looked second best in almost every department on the day.

One player who came under particular criticism is Karim Benzema. The Frenchman’s form has been up and down all season, and this proved to be a bad night for the current Ballon d’Or holder.

Benzema was slammed by fans and media alike, after his performance against Barcelona. And it would be safe to say that the Frenchman was poor.

At the same time, one cannot overlook the rumours that Benzema is playing with an injury and is not 100 per cent fit at the moment.

The problem is, Real Madrid do not have any real back up for Benzema. As a result, they have to rely on the French striker, whether he is out of form or unfit. And that is not a great situation to be in.
