Real Madrid’s managerial situation is up in the air right now. If they end up going trophyless, it is very likely that Carlo Ancelotti would be shown the exit door. The Italian might have won the Champions League and League Cup double last season, but this time around, things have not been so rosy. They are pretty much out of the La Liga title race already and have lost three straight to Barcelona.
On the other hand, Tottenham Hotspur could find themselves in search of a manager soon as well. A recent controversial interview from Antonio Conte to the media, has thrown his future at the club in doubt and it feels almost certain that he will be shown the exit door, whether soon or after the end of the season.
Both Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur could end up going after the same manager soon though, in the form of Mauricio Pochettino.
As reported by The Times (via Sky Sports), Tottenham Hotspur risk missing out on Pochettino at the end of the season. The Argentine manager is high up on Real Madrid’s shortlist if Ancelotti departs in the summer.
Real Madrid could battle Tottenham Hotspur over manager
Real Madrid have been linked with Pochettino several times in the past as well. But the move just never materialised.
If Ancelotti does end up leaving, this could be the perfect time to bring him in, as the Argentine is without a club right now. Of course, the possibility of a return to Tottenham Hotspur might hold some interest to him as well but at the end of the day, the two jobs are not really comparable.
Pochettino’s last stint came at PSG. And while he failed to guide them to the Champions League, nobody else has been successful at that task either. On the contrary, he did show in France that he was capable of delivering titles.
