Real Madrid’s squad needs a bit of a shake up in the summer. The biggest task will be to make the right additions and increase the strength of the team to the point where they can realistically compete for all three major trophies. On the other hand, there are also some players who might need replacing.
Andriy Lunin is someone who has always been very highly rated at Real Madrid. But he is at a stage of his career where he needs to be playing regular football in order to continue his development. Unfortunately, he is not expected to get that at Santiago Bernabeu.
Thibaut Courtois is a nailed on starter for the club and it is hard to see Lunin get many chances, when the Belgian is not injured, suspended or rested. As a result, there have been some suggestions that the second-choice goalkeeper could be on his way out in the summer.
On the other hand, as reported by Defensa Central (via The Hard Tackle), Bart Verbruggen is the subject of interest from Real Madrid as Los Blancos look for a replacement for Lunin. The Dutch goalkeeper is expected to be available for a fee around €10 million in the summer.
Real Madrid want to sign Dutchman to replace struggling player
Verbruggen currently plays for Anderlecht in the Belgian league. He is just 20 years of age as well and appears to have a bright future ahead of him.
At his age, it is realistic that he could be brought into the Real Madrid starting XI, by the time Courtois’ performance levels start to go down in his mid-to-late 30s. Of course, for that to happen, Verbruggen would have to develop into an impressive goalkeeper himself.
On the other hand, it remains to be seen what the future holds for Lunin. Although, it feels likely that he could be on his way out in the summer.
