Real Madrid are clearly in need of some reinforcements this summer in many different areas of the pitch. With the up and down form this season that the club has been in, and especially considering the most recent 2-1 El Clasico loss to Barcelona, it is evident that the current squad does not have enough depth to compete on all fronts throughout the entire campaign.
Real Madrid have been linked with a number of players as potential signings this summer, ranging in positions all over the pitch. Ancelotti has been receiving quite a bit of criticism for the team’s inconsistent form, but it can’t be overlooked that he hasn’t been dealt a good hand.
The most recent player Real Madrid have been linked with isn’t a name we have heard mentioned with the club much. But considering his talent and incredibly high celling, it was only a matter of time.
According to Fabrizio Romano and as reported by ESPN, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Liverpool are eyeing Florian Wirtz.
Real Madrid enter race to sign Bayer Leverkusen super talent
Wirtz is 19 years of age and has been a sensation for Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga. His numbers for the club are extraordinary, especially for an attacking midfielder who is still in his teens.
Wirtz is naturally an attacking midfielder, but has the ability and skills to play as a second striker or even a winger, if the situation calls for it.
Wirtz could be a long-term solution for Real Madrid to transform their team. There were questions marks about whether he would be the same player after his return from a long-term injury this season. But he has shown that he is still a very capable player and is only expected to get better with time, as he is just 19 years of age right now.
