Erling Haaland is a someone that Real Madrid have been heavily linked with in recent weeks and it is not hard to see why. The Norwegian has arguably been the best striker on the planet this season. And that is an area of the pitch where Los Blancos need to bring in reinforcements as soon as possible.

Karim Benzema might have won the Ballon d’Or for his performances last season, but this time around, he has struggled for both fitness and form. On the other hand, the club do not have any real back up option for the Frenchman.

Thus, Real Madrid could certainly do with someone like Haaland. And it is believed that a release clause will become active in his current deal in the summer of 2024.

But there is some bad news for Real Madrid and their hopes of signing Haaland. It looks like Manchester City might already be looking to hand him a new and improved contract.

As reported by The Sun, Manchester City are ready to make Haaland the Premier League’s top earner. Club bosses will sit down with the Norwegian at the end of the campaign in order to discuss a new £500,000-a-week deal.

Of course, if Manchester City are able to agree a new contract of that magnitude with Haaland, it would make him one of the highest paid players on the planet. At the same time, it would make it even more difficult for Real Madrid to sign him in the future.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for both Haaland and Real Madrid. The club have been linked with several other strikers in recent weeks though, like Victor Osimhen, Harry Kane, Dusan Vlahovic and others, who could all be great signings in their own right.
