Carlo Ancelotti’s future at Real Madrid. The club won a UEFA Champions League and La Liga double last season, but that ended up raising expectations. And Los Blancos have struggled to match them this season till now. And if they end up going trophyless, there is a good chance that the Italian manager would be shown the exit door by the end of the season.

As things stand, their La Liga title challenge seems to be as good as over. They lost the first leg of the Copa del Rey semis as well and the second leg is at Camp Nou. The Champions League might be their best chance of winning a trophy, and in the last 8 they will face Chelsea.

Of course, the club must have eyes on potential replacements for Ancelotti as well. Thomas Tuchel’s recent appointment as Bayern Munich manager must have narrowed down their options though.

As reported by Relevo, in case Ancelotti ends up leaving, Mauricio Pochettino is in pole position. Raul is also in the background.

Pochettino has been linked with a move to Real Madrid for years, going as far back as when he was the Tottenham Hotspur manager. But till now, it has never materialised.

The Argentine is without a club right now though. His last job was with PSG and while he delivered silverware there, overall his stint was seen as a failure. Pochettino failed to get the best out of the trio of Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar, and could not deliver the Champions League.

That stint with PSG does not seem to have had any effect on how highly he is rated at Santiago Bernabeu though. Of course, everything depends on the future of Ancelotti. If he is successful in guiding the team to another Champions League triumph, it is almost certain that he would stay.
