Real Madrid have struggled to maintain any kind of form or momentum this season. There are a number of players who have not performed at their usual best and it has become clear that the club need to make additions in the summer. Some of their long-time starters have even disappointed in the ongoing campaign.
One player who falls under that category is Dani Carvajal. The Spaniard’s performances have been on a downward turn for quite some time now, for both club and country.
He got heavily criticised after Real Madrid’s recent defeat at the hands of Barcelona at Camp Nou. On the other hand, he did not cover himself in glory in Spain’s 2-0 loss against Scotland at Hampden Park.
And as reported by SPORT, Real Madrid have doubts with Carvajal. His bad form has set off the alarms at the club.
Real Madrid are having doubts about long-time starter
Carvajal’s form has been questionable for a while. It has become pretty clear that he is no longer the player that he once was.
The problem for Real Madrid is that they do not have any real back up option for Carvajal. Lucas Vazquez has had his injury problems and is not a natural right-back. On the other hand, Alvaro Odriozola has barely featured and is expected to be on his way out of the club in the summer transfer window. Out of all the players that the club have, Nacho Fernandez might be the most reliable cover in that right side of defence.
Thus, it might not be a bad idea for Real Madrid to look for another right-back in the upcoming summer transfer window. They have been linked with a number of players capable of playing in that position, but till now, have not made any additions to their ranks.
