Real Madrid’s current squad is in need of a revamp. They have some top class players without doubt. But the depth simply is not there for them to compete throughout the course of a long campaign. We have seen injuries and fatigue take their toll on this side. They had started the season strong but have faded away with time, and seem to be struggling for form and momentum right now.
One of the areas where Real Madrid need to strengthen is their defence. Thus, it would make sense for them to sign a player who can play multiple roles across the backline. And it looks like that might be exactly what they are planning to do.
The player in question is Benjamin Pavard. The Frenchman currently plays for Bayern Munich, where his contract runs till the summer of 2024.
As reported by Fichajes (via The Hard Tackle), Pavard is one of the names on Real Madrid’s transfer target list. The club will push for his signatures in the summer of 2024.
Real Madrid want to sign World Cup winner in 2024
Pavard rose to prominence with his performances for the French national team on their way to winning the World Cup in 2018. He plays for a top club in Bayern Munich as well, but his future there is uncertain.
It is not hard to see why Real Madrid might be interested in signing someone like Pavard. The Frenchman is capable of playing as a right-back as well as a centre-back with equal ease.
Of course, both of those are positions where Real Madrid could do with reinforcements. And they could especially do with someone with the versatility of Pavard, if Nacho Fernandez ends up leaving in the near future. Lately, the Spaniard has been playing the role of someone who fits in all across the backline.
