Real Madrid need to make additions all over the pitch. Right-back certainly falls under that category. The form of Dani Carvajal has been a major cause of concern. The Spaniard might have been a stalwart for Los Blancos for years, but his form has been on a downward slide recently and he is no longer the player that he once was.
On the other hand, the club do not have any real back up in that position either. Alvaro Odriozola has not featured much and is expected to leave soon. Lucas Vazquez is not a natural right-back and is even older than Carvajal. And Nacho might very well be the best option that Carlo Ancelotti has right now in that area of the pitch, and he is 33.
Thus, Real Madrid could do with another option at right-back as soon as possible. And it looks like an Argentine World Cup winner has caught their eye.
As reported by SPORT, Real Madrid has sounded out the environment of Juan Foyth. Villarreal will not negotiate with anyone though and refer to his €54 million release clause.
Real Madrid interested in €54 million-rated defender
It was just a few years ago that Villarreal signed Foyth for a transfer fee around €15 million from Tottenham Hotspur. It is safe to say that his transfer fee has skyrocketed since then.
Not only did he win the World Cup with Argentina last year, but Foyth has been a standout performer for Villarreal. Other than Real Madrid, Barcelona are believed to be chasing his signature as well.
Of course, €54 million would be a stiff transfer fee to shell out for a right-back. And Real Madrid have not splashed out in recent years like in the past. Thus, it feels unlikely that they would look to activate Foyth’s release clause in order to sign him.
