Real Madrid’s managerial situation is one of the most interesting stories in world football right now. It remains to be seen what the future holds for Carlo Ancelotti. The club might have won the Champions League and La Liga double last season, but this time around, they have struggled to meet expectations till now.

The La Liga title race seems to be as good as over to be very honest. With Barcelona 12 points ahead, it is hard to see Real Madrid finding a way back. They could still turn things around in the second leg of the Copa del Rey semis though and the Champions League might be their best chance of triumph.

If Real Madrid end up going trophyless, it might result in Ancelotti being shown the exit door. On the other hand, he is being linked with the Brazil national team job as well.

As a result, Real Madrid should keep their eyes on potential managerial replacements. And one of the names being linked with the Santiago Bernabeu hot seat is Raul, who is managing at Castilla level right now. There is a twist in the tale though.

As reported by Mundo Deportivo, rumours suggest that Raul is closer to leaving Real Madrid than to continue at the club. Schalke 04 is very attentive of his situation.

Of course, Raul made the same move when he left Real Madrid during his playing career as well, as he ended up joining Schalke. He would spend a couple of seasons with the Bundesliga giants and enjoyed quite a bit of success as well.

Times have changed for Schalke since then though. They have already been to the second division of German football recently and are struggling to stay up in the Bundesliga this time around.
