Real Madrid need to bring in reinforcements all over the pitch. One of those areas is centre-back. The club have some big name players there. But the form of Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba has been questioned in recent times. Nacho Fernandez is not a long-term solution either. Eder Militao looks like the only one of them, who should be starting regularly in the heart of defence.
Thus, do not be surprised if Real Madrid try to sign a centre-back in the summer. And it looks like one player in particular has caught their attention. Unfortunately, Manchester City seem to be chasing his signature as well.
As reported by 90min, Josko Gvardiol is the top centre-back target for both Manchester City and Real Madrid ahead of the summer transfer window. RB Leipzig are expected to look for a transfer fee around £75 million for the defender.
Gvardiol is considered by many as the best young defender in the game. Thus, signing him would be considered as a major coup for most clubs.
Real Madrid make £75 million player their top centre-back target
Gvardiol has been a standout performer for RB Leipzig for quite some time. And his stock went up further after the World Cup, as he was arguably the best defender in the entire tournament as Croatia made it to the semi-finals before being knocked out by eventual champions, Argentina.
Real Madrid have gotten the chance to have a close look at Gvardiol recently as well. They faced RB Leipzig in the Champions League group stages this season and the defender even scored against them in the away fixture in Germany.
It remains to be seen if Real Madrid are able to sign Gvardiol or not. Of course, the interest from Manchester City is a worry for them and the £75 million transfer fee could be steep as well.
