Real Madrid have been linked with a long list of players in recent times. But out of all of the names, Jude Bellingham has always been rumoured to be their top priority. It is not hard to understand why that might be the case either. The Englishman is arguably the most in-demand talent in all of football right now.
At 19 years of age, Bellingham can be counted amongst the best midfielders in the game. He is already proven at the Champions League level and was arguably England’s best player at the World Cup. He has also captained Borussia Dortmund.
Thus, it is not hard to see why there is plenty of interest in Bellingham’s signature. And clubs other than Real Madrid are also taking steps to sign him.
It looks like Liverpool have held talks over the signing of Bellingham recently, while Real Madrid might be falling behind in the race to sign the Englishman. As reported by CaughtOffside, Christian Falk wrote in his exclusive CaughtOffside column:
"“The biggest focus is still on Liverpool. There were rumours of an offer Liverpool made to Dortmund for Jude Bellingham but I’ve heard that no such offer has reached the club at the moment.“But there is a reason – there are very concrete talks between Bellingham’s father, Mark, and Liverpool but both sides are not together when talking about money at the moment. Liverpool will first make an offer as and when they have an agreement with the midfielder’s father.“You see that Bellingham is willing to go to Liverpool but if another club puts a lot more money on the table, it would be hard to say yes. I think the biggest rival in this race is Manchester City at the moment, as they have the money, they’re a Premier League club and competing for titles. Real Madrid are still behind the two Premier League clubs at the moment.”"
Real Madrid fans won’t be happy with Bellingham news
Bellingham is a can’t-miss talent. But at the same time, it looks like Real Madrid might have a tough time trying to sign him.
On one hand, it is believed that Borussia Dortmund would look for an astronomical transfer fee to part ways with their star man. It could go as high as €150 million. And Real Madrid have not splashed out like in the past in recent years.
On the other hand, there is some top level competition for his signature as well. Clubs like Liverpool and Manchester City are believed to be after him. And unfortunately, Real Madrid cannot compete financially with the Premier League giants at this point.
Over the past few weeks, the Bellingham to Real Madrid rumours have slowed down significantly. And that might not be good news.
