Surprise Jose Mourinho to Real Madrid claim made
Real Madrid could be in search of a new manager next summer, depending on how this season ends. At the moment, things are not looking good for Carlo Ancelotti’s side but they do have the chance to turn it around. The La Liga title race might be as good as over but winning the Copa del Rey and the Champions League is still very possible.
If Real Madrid end up going trophyless though, one would expect Ancelotti to be shown the Santiago Bernabeu exit door. On the other hand, it is worth pointing out that he has been heavily linked with the Brazil national team job as well.
In the scenario that Ancelotti does leave the club, who would be the next manager? Names like Julian Nagelsmann, Mauricio Pochettino, Raul and a few others have been brought up. But it looks like there is a surprise candidate as well.
It is none other than Jose Mourinho. As reported by Football Espana, Antonio Romero said on Cadena SER:
"“They tell me not to rule out Mourinho, and although it seems like science fiction, today it cannot be ruled out.”"
Mourinho to Real Madrid claim made
Of course, Mourinho was the Real Madrid manager from 2010 to 2013. And while it might not have been the most successful in terms of silverware, it did lay down the foundation for the success that was to come over the next decade.
Mourinho’s managerial career has been on a downward trend over the past several years though. After an unsuccessful spell at Tottenham Hotspur, he joined AS Roma last season. And he has already guided them to UEFA Europa Conference League triumph and improved them overall.
Would a second stint for Mourinho at Real Madrid make sense for the club though? Probably not in the eyes of most fans. But then, nobody had expected Ancelotti to return either and he did go on to win a Champions League and La Liga double in his very first season back.
