Real Madrid’s biggest problem this season have been their injuries. When Carlo Ancelotti has had close to a full strength squad available to him, like in the early portions of the campaign, they were doing very well. But unfortunately, that has not been the case for a while. Combine that with their lack of depth in most areas of the pitch and it is not hard to understand why they have struggled to build up any kind of form or consistency.
One Real Madrid player who has struggled to remain fit in recent times is Ferland Mendy. It was only recently that he had made his return from a medium-term injury.
But now, the Frenchman is back on the sidelines after picking up a fresh issue and he will be out for a while.
The initial rumours had suggested that he would be out for a month but it looks like it could be a bit longer. As tweeted out by Mario Cortegana, Mendy is expected to be out for another 6 weeks.
Real Madrid star ruled out for six weeks with injury
Mendy has played a key part for Real Madrid in the past but there had been question marks about his form this season, even before his injuries. And of course, his fitness issues have raised more than a few eyebrows as well.
Mendy is arguably one of the best defensive full-backs on the planet when on form. At the same time though, there have always been question marks about him going forward.
Fran Garcia will be returning to the club in the summer from Rayo Vallecano. And Los Blancos have been linked with other left-backs in recent times as well. Thus, one has to wonder what the long-term future holds for Mendy at Santiago Bernabeu amidst his struggles.
