Real Madrid got the biggest result of their season yet, as they defeated Barcelona at the Camp Nou by a 4-0 scoreline. Vinicius Junior opened the scoring for Los Blancos and then Karim Benzema would find the back of the net thrice in the second half to guide Carlo Ancelotti’s team into the final of the Copa del Rey.
It was a result that not even the most optimistic of fan would have seen coming. After all, Real Madrid had lost the previous three El Clasicos and had not looked convincing for a while. Hopefully, the big win at Camp Nou will work as a launching pad for the rest of their season.
While Benzema might have scored a hattrick, Vinicius’ performance deserves a lot of appreciation as well. The Brazilian superstar scored as well as assisted, and even won the penalty kick in the second half.
In the past, Vinicius had struggled when up against Ronald Araujo. But on this occasion, he got the better of the Barcelona defender convincingly. But the Uruguayan was not happy with some of the Brazilian winger’s actions during the match.
Araujo unhappy with Real Madrid star’s actions
As reported by MARCA, Araujo said:
"“I always try to respect all the rivals, but today I warmed up a bit when I saw Vinicius talking so much to the stands and to the teammates.”"
The only thing that will matter to Real Madrid fans after the game is the result. They had a mountain to climb and they did not slip up.
This is a team that has shown time after time that they cannot be counted out, no matter what the situation. And they proved it at the Camp Nou as well.
The La Liga title race might be as good as over, but they still have a lot to play for. They are in the Copa del Rey final and the Champions League looks winnable as well. They will meet Chelsea in the quarter-finals.
