Despite the lack of depth in their squad, the future of a few Real Madrid players is up in the air right now. There are several whose current deals are running out at the end of the campaign and it is uncertain whether they will be handed extensions or not. One player who certainly falls under this category is Marco Asensio.

Asensio has certainly played a part this season even if he is not a starter. The Spaniard has mostly been used as an impact substitute and to be fair to him, he has contributed with goals and assists.

The Spaniard has a role in the team. And rumours have suggested that Real Madrid were interested in handing him a new deal. But till now, nothing has been agreed while several teams are believed to be interested in the signature of Asensio.

As reported by El Nacional, everything indicates that Asensio will finally end up in the ranks of Arsenal, who are the best positioned team to sign the Spaniard. Mikel Arteta has promised him a leading role in his schemes, as well as an ambitious project.

Arsenal are a team on the rise. They are closing in on their first Premier League title in almost two decades. And their young team could put up a realistic challenge in the Champions League next season.

Thus, it is not hard to see why a move to the London club would interest someone like Asensio. The Spaniard has never really fulfilled his potential at Real Madrid. But Arteta is a manager known to get the best out of his players.

Letting someone like Arteta leave as a free agent would not be the wisest move on the part of Real Madrid. Especially since he still has a role in Carlo Ancelotti’s plans and the squad has a lack of depth.
