The managerial situation at Real Madrid is certainly interesting. Carlo Ancelotti did give himself a lot of room with their recent 4-0 win over Barcelona and by reaching the Copa del Rey final as a result. At the same time though, it is still not clear whether the Italian will remain at Santiago Bernabeu next season or not.

If the club end up going trophyless, then it is likely that he would be shown the exit door by Real Madrid. On the other hand, Ancelotti has been heavily linked with the Brazil national team job as well.

If Ancelotti does end up departing Real Madrid in the summer, who would be their next manager though? Names like Julian Nagelsmann, Mauricio Pochettino, Raul and several others have been linked with the Santiago Bernabeu hot seat. The idea of a Jose Mourinho return has been floated as well.

Former Real Madrid player, Antonio Cassano, does not appear to be a fan of the idea though. As reported by MARCA, the Italian said:

"“He can return to Real Madrid if Ancelotti does not continue, but if the club wants a coach they will not call Mourinho for their new project.”"

Real Madrid sent clear message about Mourinho return by Cassano

Of course, Cassano is no stranger to controversies, as they followed him throughout his playing career. This is not the first time that the Italian has criticised Mourinho either.

Mourinho, of course, is one of the best managers of all-time. He was at Real Madrid for three years, from 2010 to 2013. And while the club might not have won a lot of silverware during that period of time, it did lay the foundation for the historic successes that they were headed for over the next decade. In that sense, the Portuguese legend does not get the credit that he deserves for the job that he did at Santiago Bernabeu.

On the other hand, Cassano was considered the biggest talent of his generation by many while he was coming through. But he never managed to fulfil his potential. He played for iconic clubs like Real Madrid, AC Milan and Inter Milan but never really flourished in that environment. Instead, his best seasons came for teams like AS Roma and Sampdoria.
