The futures of a number of Real Madrid players are uncertain, and we are in the last couple of months of the season. There are quite a few whose current deals run out in the summer and they are yet to be handed extensions. And this includes a fair few legends as well. One who falls under that category is Luka Modric.

Modric is 37 years of age and no longer in the prime of his career. It must also be said that his form has been inconsistent after the World Cup.

At the same time though, he is still very capable of producing some top quality performances and has a knack for rising to the occasion in the big matches. We have seen that happen time and again. Hopefully, the club will end up handing Modric an extension.

On the other hand, Harry Redknapp appears to believe that Tottenham Hotspur should consider a move to bring back Modric, if he does end up leaving Real Madrid. As reported by BBC, he said:

"“Tottenham need better recruitment, especially someone who can put their foot on the ball in midfield. If I was them I’d be looking at Luka Modric if he leaves Real Madrid. I’d take him for two years.“They need someone to run the game for them and he does that with his quality in midfield. Look at them at Everton on Monday. They go 1-0 up [against 10 men] but kept giving the ball away.”"

It is not hard to see Modric do a job at a club like Tottenham Hotspur for the next couple of years. Despite being 37, he rarely has fitness issues.

Now can he play two games every week like he used to in the past? Probably not, but if his minutes are managed properly, then Modric could make a positive contribution to most clubs in Europe even at this stage of his career.

The best case scenario for Real Madrid would be him extending his contract at Santiago Bernabeu. Not only does he bring world-class quality but a wealth of experience as well as the ability to rise to the occasion. Players like him do not come around often and it might be too early, even at 37 years of age, for the club to let him walk out as a free agent.
