Real Madrid were handed a major confidence boost with their 4-0 win away at Camp Nou against Barcelona recently. But then, they were served a wake up call just as quickly, as they lost 3-2 to Villarreal at Santiago Bernabeu. The result means that their La Liga titles hopes are as good as over. They are twelve points behind despite having played a game more than Xavi’s side.

It was a bad day at the office for Real Madrid to say the very least. And it is starting to feel like they struggle to produce their best in games in which there is not much really on the line.

A lot will be on the line in midweek though, when they welcome Chelsea to Santiago Bernabeu in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie. And it is also time for Real Madrid to make a tough decision.

It is time to accept that their La Liga title hopes are over. They have fallen too far behind and it is hard to see Barcelona that many points over their last 11 games. It is time for Real Madrid to concentrate on the Champions League and the Copa del Rey.

Real Madrid must make tough decision after losing again in La Liga

Real Madrid can use the upcoming La Liga games to give rest to those who have been playing a lot this season, or to those who have been struggling with injuries. On the other hand, they can be used to get some players up to speed as well.

Real Madrid are already in the final of the Copa del Rey. And the Champions League seems very winnable this season as well, with no standout contender.

It is time to give up on the La Liga title race and concentrate on the two trophies that they can realistically win.
