Real Madrid might have lost at the weekend to Villarreal by a 3-2 scoreline, but when they welcome Chelsea to Santiago Bernabeu in midweek, they have to be considered as heavy favourites to go and win the game. These players just have a knack for rising to the occasion in the Champions League.

On the other hand, Chelsea are going through their worst season of this century. Recently, they showed Graham Potter the exit door after a terrible run at Stamford Bridge and brought back Frank Lampard as caretaker manager till the end of the campaign.

If Real Madrid fans were fearing a new manager bounce, there was none in view this weekend. Chelsea lost 1-0 against Wolves in another uninspiring performance. The Blues have been handed one boost ahead of the game against Real Madrid though.

As reported by Evening Standard, Lampard has confirmed N’Golo Kante was “rested” against Wolves. The French World Cup winner is set to train next week and be available for the huge Champions League game with Real Madrid.

Kante is a key player for Chelsea. And a lot of their struggles this season can be put down to his unavailability, as the Frenchman has missed the majority of the campaign through injury.

He made his return to the pitch recently. The Frenchman also put in a superb performance in the game against Liverpool.

Thus, Kante being available against Real Madrid would be a major boost for Chelsea. In the past, the French World Cup winner has put in some brilliant performances against Los Blancos and if he does play in midweek, he is certainly someone that Carlo Ancelotti’s team will have to keep a close eye on. Despite that though, the defending European champions have to considered heavy favourites heading into the contest.
