Mikel Arteta came through the youth ranks at Barcelona during his playing days but it is the Real Madrid managerial job that he has been linked with in recent weeks and months. The Spaniard has done a superb job at Arsenal, who are leading the Premier League title race this season and could end their two decade-long wait to be champions of England.

On the other hand, the managerial situation at Real Madrid is up in the air right now. Their last two games show exactly what kind of a season the club are having. They defeated Barcelona 4-0 away at Camp Nou and then lost to Villarreal 3-2 at the Santiago Bernabeu.

A lot of questions have been raised about Carlo Ancelotti in recent times and understandably so. It must be said though that the Italian manager has not been dealt the best hand. The club are clearly lacking depth and have had a series of injury problems to go with it.

Thus, most managers would have struggled under these circumstances. Ancelotti deserves credit for the job that he has done, as the Champions League and the Copa del Rey are still within reach. If the club end up going trophyless though, it is likely that he would be shown the exit. And someone like Arteta could be an option to replace him.

Gabriel Agbonlahor does not believe that it is the time for Arteta to leave Arsenal though. As reported by Football Insider, he said:

"“The talk of him going to Madrid, I don’t see why he would want to go right now.“He’s built something special. Even if he doesn’t win the league this season, he’ll want to do it next season. He’s got Champions League football to look forward to.“Arsenal is his club. Dream jobs like Real Madrid, or Spain – that can wait for the future. He’s got plenty of time.”"

It remains to be seen what the future holds for the managerial situation at Real Madrid. At the end of the day, it all depends on how this season ends and whether Ancelotti stays or not. His current deals runs until the summer of 2024.

On the other hand, coming back to Arteta. He might have a lot to look forward to Arsenal. But the opportunity to manage Real Madrid does not come around often, if it ever does in the first place.
