Marco Asensio’s future at Real Madrid has been a topic of heavy discussion in recent months. The Spaniard looked completely out of the first-team picture at the start of the campaign but to his credit, he has played his way back into Carlo Ancelotti’s plans and has been making his presence felt, mostly as an impact substitute.

Thus, Asensio has to be viewed as an important part of this Real Madrid team even if he is not a regular starter. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 8 goals and provided 6 assists in 37 appearances and 1376 minutes on football this season till now. That is an excellent output.

The problem is, his current deal runs out in the summer. And till now, Asensio is yet to agree a contract extension with Real Madrid.

Many rumours had even broken out that the club were ready to part ways with Asensio and that Arsenal were closing in on a deal. But now, there seems to be a twist in the tale.

Major twist in Asensio’s future at Real Madrid

As reported by The Athletic, Asensio is expected to renew his contract with Real Madrid. Ancelotti has told the club several times that he wants the Spaniard to stay on. The length and salary conditions of his new deal are being negotiated, which will be for either four or five years, until 2027 or 2028.

Thus, it looks like Asensio could not only sign a contract extension with Real Madrid, but a long-term one as well. That is great news for the club.

Asensio is someone who has proven that he can make an impact off the bench. And if he was to leave as a free agent, then the club might end up having a difficult time finding someone who can fill that role in the squad next season.
