Real Madrid were handed a bit of a wake up call at the weekend by Villarreal. Carlo Ancelotti’s side were flying high after a 4-0 win away at Camp Nou over Barcelona to book their place in the Copa del Rey final. But they were brought back down to Earth by the Yellow Submarine, as they handed Los Blancos a 3-2 defeat in their own backyard.

The star of the show on the night was Samuel Chukwueze. The Real Madrid defence, especially Nacho Fernandez, could not cope with him throughout the game, as the Nigerian international scored a brace at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Chukwueze’s performance on the night impressed a lot of people. And that seems to be include Real Madrid president, Florentino Perez.

As reported by MARCA, Pedro Pablo Parrado said while speaking on Goles:

"“Florentino liked it and in the box there was talk of the possibility of having Vinicius in one band and Chukwueze in the other.”"

For many years, Chukwueze has been considered as one of the biggest talents in La Liga. And now, at 23, he finally seems to be putting it all together and is enjoying a brilliant campaign.

This has been Chukwueze’s best campaign so far without any doubt. And his performance against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu proved that he is capable of rising up to the occasion.

Chukwueze is believed to have a release clause set at around €100 million in his current deal with Villarreal. His contract with the Yellow Submarine runs out in the summer of 2024 though and as a result, there have been suggestions that he could be available for a transfer fee around €50 million.

Right wing has been a bit of a confusing position for Real Madrid. For years, Rodrygo has been considered as the future there, and yet, he has never really been able to nail it down. Instead, Federico Valverde has played there mostly this season but he is at his best in midfield. Thus, signing someone like Chukwueze might make sense for the club.
