Frank Lampard was brought in by Chelsea as the caretaker manager until the end of the season after they showed Graham Potter the exit door following a disastrous run of form. The club legend is not going to have an easy start to life at Stamford Bridge though. The Blues lost 1-0 to Wolves in his first game back and their second one is against Real Madrid away at Santiago Bernabeu in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals.
Thus, it is safe to say that Chelsea are not in a great position going into the game against Real Madrid. They have to be considered as heavy underdogs.
The Blues have been handed a triple injury boost ahead of the game against Real Madrid though. It looks like N’Golo Kante, Thiago Silva and Mason Mount are all fit to feature against the defending European champions in midweek.
As reported by Metro, Lampard said in his pre-match press conference about the trio:
"‘They’re all fit.‘The players you mentioned are all in the squad [for tomorrow], they’re good and they’re here.’"
Lampard confirms Chelsea triple boost for Real Madrid game
All three have been key players for Chelsea in the past. Thus, them being fit is a major boost for the club ahead of such an important game.
Silva and Kante are two of the best in the world on their day. On the other hand, Mount might not be having a good season but he has been a very important player for Chelsea over the years and has played some of his best football under the management of Lampard.
None of them have played much football in recent times though. As a result, it would be a risk to put them on the pitch in a game of his importance. But then, not playing them is a risk as well, considering how bad Chelsea’s form has been without them.
Despite the trio being available, Real Madrid still have to be considered heavy favourites to get the win at Santiago Bernabeu in midweek. They might have lost in midweek but are a team that rises to the occasion. It would be a mistake to take Chelsea lightly though.
