Real Madrid are in a bit of a sticky situation this summer with the number of players contracts expiring, and will need to decide who gets an extension, and who gets shown the exit door. Some of the expiring contracts are of squad players who should be replaceable. However, some of them are of important players that the club must keep.

As things stand, it feels like Real Madrid do not want massive changes ahead of next season. But if they fail to agree extensions with important players, that might become unavoidable.

The future of the Real Madrid midfield seems already set with Aurelien Tchouameni, Fede Valverde and Eduardo Camavinga at the club. On the other hand, Toni Kroos, Luka Modric and Dani Ceballos all have their contracts expiring in the summer.

As reported by Relevo, the desire of Real Madrid is that Kroos, Modric and Ceballos continue to wear the Royal White jersey. All three have very different situations though.

The extensions for both Kroos and Modric, if agreed, would likely be short-term deals for just next season. Whereas, Ceballos could up extending for a number of years, as he is just 26 and entering his prime.

Kroos has been rumoured to be considering retirement, but with the German midfielder’s level of play this season, he can easily continue playing at the top level for several more years. And in the case of Modric, he continues to perform at a high level as well even though at 37 years of age, his minutes might have to be managed carefully.

Finally, when it comes to Ceballos, the Spaniard has completely turned around his situation at the club. He is loved by fans more than ever and has become an important contributor in Carlo Ancelotti’s side.
