The Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid rumours just refuse to go away. Last season, it had looked like he was destined to join Los Blancos, with his contract set to run out in the summer of 2022. So much so that he was even applauded by the Santiago Bernabeu crowd. But instead, he went on to agree a contract extension with Paris Saint-Germain.

The transfer saga left a bitter taste in the mouths of many fans. Yet, less than a year later, the rumours are back in full flow.

The extension with PSG was not a long-term one. It was a two-year deal with the option for a third. And with the French club failing to deliver in the Champions League once again, Mbappe was unsurprisingly linked with a move away.

This raised the hopes of many Real Madrid fans once again. But it looks like for the time being, Mbappe sees his future at PSG and is aiming to win the Champions League with them.

Real Madrid fans won’t be happy with Mbappe’s comments

As reported by GOAL, Mbappe told France 3:

"“The next step? Winning the Champions League.“I have already made a final, semi-final, quarter-final, round of 16 … I have done everything but win. That’s all I need. Where [I want to do it]? In Paris. I’m a Parisian and under contract. So it’s PSG.”"

Rumours have suggested that PSG are not ready to part ways with Mbappe this summer. Of course, there is the risk that he could leave as a free agent just twelve months later but it seems like the French club are willing to take it.

Of course, if Real Madrid are able to sign Mbappe as a free agent in the summer of 2024, then it has the potential to be one of the best signings in football history.

Los Blancos cannot look too far ahead of themselves though. There is still a lot to play for this season. And there is a genuine possibility that they could retain the Champions League, while they are in the Copa del Rey final as well.
