The Real Madrid vs Chelsea game at Santiago Bernabeu was a one-sided contest to say the least. It might have ended 2-0 but Los Blancos could have, and probably should have, score more goals, especially with Frank Lampard’s side a man down for half an hour, after Ben Chilwell was shown a red card.

One of the players who struggled on the day was Reece James. He has gotten the better of Vinicius Junior in the past but on this occasion, the Chelsea defender came up second best.

The performance against Santiago Bernabeu does not change the fact though that James is one of the most talented full-backs in the world. He has the potential to be the best right-back in the game if he can develop further and remain injury-free.

As reported by MARCA, James is on the radar of Real Madrid. Chelsea’s situation is not the best and in the next transfer window they will have to part ways with a few of their players. The English right-back could be one of them and his departure could be for a transfer fee around €50 million.

Considering James’ potential, his age and the levels that he has already shown for Chelsea when at his best, a €50 million transfer fee certainly sounds very much on the low end. If a club are able to sign him for anywhere near that figure, it would have to considered as a bargain for sure.

It remains to be seen if Chelsea are willing to let James go in the summer or not. It was not too long ago that he signed a long-term extension with the club and he is certainly one of their best players.

Chelsea parting ways with James certainly feels like worst case scenario for them. Stranger things have happened in football though so Real Madrid should keep an eye out.
