Real Madrid’s transfer plans for the summer still remain unclear. There have been conflicting rumours surrounding the matter. Some have suggested that the club are planning to splash out while others have claimed that they do not plan to make major changes to their squad. Only time shall tell.

One area where they definitely need to make an addition or two though is striker. Mariano Diaz is expected to leave in the summer, when his contract runs out. And while Karim Benzema is still one of the best in the world, he has also had his struggles with injuries and is 35 years of age.

Thus, Real Madrid need to strengthen up top. If they are not planning to splash out in the summer, they might have a great option available as a free agent as well.

Marcus Thuram has been one of the standout players in the Bundesliga this season. His current deal with Borussia Monchengladbach runs out at the end of the campaign though, meaning that he will be available as a free agent in the summer.

Not only has Thuram been a key player for Borussia Monchengladbach this season but he played his part in France’s run to the World Cup final as well, providing a couple of assists in the tournament.

Thuram might not be someone who one would view as the long-term successor to Benzema. But he is certainly someone more than good enough to provide cover for him and play his part in the team.

He has all the attributes that Real Madrid would look for in a target man. At the same time, Thuram is also just 25 years of age, meaning he still has a lot of room for improvement. So, signing him on a free transfer would be a smart move.
